The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division's mission is to effectively and efficiently investigate crimes in Cherokee County, to improve the lives of its citizens and visitors, and to promote a safer community.
ABOUT THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS DIVISION
The Criminal Investigation Division, commonly known as CID, provides professional investigative services for Cherokee County. CID is responsible for the investigation of crimes committed in Cherokee County by both adults and juveniles. The broad spectrum of crimes include: murder, robbery, arson, burglary, financial crime, theft, juvenile crime, sexual and physical abuse, and the exploitation of children. The Division is also tasked with counter-drug operations, including the Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit.
In most cases, CID conducts follow-up investigations after a report has been made to the Patrol Division. Motivated only by a search for the truth, investigators seek and collect all available evidence surrounding each case in order to determine the facts of the situation. As professional fact finders, CID conducts systematic and methodical investigations to determine facts supported by the evidence. Investigators then submit their findings to the District Attorney for review.
CID works closely with other local, state, federal, and military law enforcement agencies, as well as other government agencies, to counter and investigate the most serious crimes.
The Division is led by Chief Investigator Josh Summerford. Summerford has over 15 years of law enforcement experience, including time as a deputy sheriff and a District Attorney’s investigator.
The CID is made up of six other full-time investigators: Brent Snead, Tony Monroy, Michael Green, Jeremy Stepps, Jordan Kelley, and Brian Gilliland. These seven investigators bring a variety of skills to the Division that combine to make an effective team.
Three retirees serve as part-time investigators at the Sheriff’s Office. Investigators Jim Roberts, Matt Sims, and Rhonda Jackson provide a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Division.
