According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, Sheriff’s Office investigators apprehended a convicted sex offender wanted from Georgia for violation of sex offender registration requirements. Chief Investigator Josh Summerford and Investigator Tony Monroy arrested Arthur R. Brookshire, 56, of Ellijay, Georgia, at a campground in the Kirk’s Grove community on Wednesday, May 30, 2017. Investigators charged the fugitive with an Alabama sex offender registration violation and obstruction of justice by using a false identity. Brookshire was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center and will eventually be extradited back to Georgia.
