According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office with the assistance of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office conducted a fire code and life safety inspection earlier this week at the Centre Motel on West Main Street.  According to Deputy State Fire Marshal Ray Cumby, approximately 34 major violations were discovered during the inspection and a detailed report has been submitted to State Fire Marshal Ed Paulk for the issuance of a closure order.  Sheriff Shaver stated he has received numerous complaints over the last several months from concerned citizens about illegal activities taking place at the motel.  Sheriff Shaver says that the motel has become a public nuisance and safety concern.  Prakashbh Balubhai Patel, 55, of Rome, Georgia, and 43 year old Tracey Alan Delevie, 43, of Centre were arrested for allowing the motel to operate under such conditions and allowing people to live in such a dangerous environment.  Sheriff Shaver wants to extend his appreciation to Deputy Ray Cumby and other personnel with the Fire Marshal’s Office for their prompt attention and actions which could save the lives of many.  Sheriff Shaver wants to remind the citizens if they observe or suspect illegal activity to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (256)927-3365 or the anonymous tip line at (256)927-9999.
