Arrest Made in Leesburg Arson Case

   A Leesburg man has been arrested on second degree arson charges after allegedly setting fire to a residence on County Road 7. According to information released by Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, 57 year old Samuel Joseph Johns was arrested by a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office investigators after being located at a residence on Rocky Ford Road, just across the Etowah County line. ​ Johns had been in a verbal argument with family members a short time before a 911 call was made and fire departments were sent to the residence. Once fire department personnel arrived on-scene and extinguished the fire, they discovered suspicious burn patterns and contacted Cherokee County Fire Investigator Shawn Rogers, who responded to the scene. Investigator Rogers was able to gather evidence which led to the arrest of Johns. Johns is currently being housed at the Cherokee County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
