According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, the quick actions of Deputy Nick Vaughn led to the arrest of a suspected burglar on Sunday evening, July 26th. Deputies were dispatched to a reported burglary and theft at a residence on County Road 307 at approximately 5:00 p.m. Deputy Vaughn conducted a search of the area and located some of the stolen property and evidence from the crime. Vaughn and Investigator Tony Monroy identified a person of interest and transported him to the Sheriff’s Office for an interview. Mathew Troy Atkins, 29, of Centre was charged with third degree burglary and second degree theft of property. Atkins is being held in the Cherokee County Detention Facility pending a bond hearing.
