Sheriff’s Office Arrests Burglary Suspect

On Wednesday, August 17, 2016, a resident of the Farrell community called 9-1-1 to report someone had just broken into their residence, and the suspect had fled when confronted.  Dispatch quickly broadcasted a description of the suspect’s vehicle over the radio.  On route to the scene, Lt. Bo Jolly met a vehicle matching the description.  Chief Investigator Josh Summerford and Investigator Jeremy Stepps stopped the truck on the causeway in Cedar Bluff with the assistance of Deputy Brian Gilliland.  The victim identified the driver as the burglar.  Daniel Leon Welchel, 45, of Rome, Georgia, was arrested and charged with second degree burglary.  Sheriff Jeff Shaver commended the officers on their quick response and apprehension of the suspect.
