K9 Unit
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit is comprised of two professional K9s, Keelo and Tracker.
Keelo, our narcotics K9 is used to locate the odor of narcotics in various locations, such as cars or buildings. Keelo is used to gain probable cause for search warrants or to help locate narcotics during the service of a search warrant. The dogs are typically deployed when officers stop vehicles and believe that narcotics may be present.
Keelo has had some serious training that enabled her to serve a number of critical purposes. She can sniff out illegal drugs like cocaine and methamphetamine. However she’s not all business. She can also be described as a bit hyperactive, playful and fun-loving. Keelo is a black Labrador retriever.
Keelo was purchased from the Alabama Canine Law enforcement Officers Training Center. Keelo was fully trained when purchased. Keelo’s handler attended a four week training at the Alabama Canine Law enforcement Officers Training Center. During this training Keelo and her Partner learned how to work as a team to find illegal contraband.
Tracker is a bloodhound that is used to track people. Tracker has been used for tracking fugitives and suspects that ran from on foot from law enforcement. He is also used to track individuals that are missing.
