Anniston Man Arrested After Brief Pursuit…

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, Kody Blake Smelley, 25, of Anniston was arrested after throwing illegal substances out of the car window and leading deputies on a brief chase.  

Deputies Jeremy Stepps and Hunter Brisendine attempted to perform a traffic stop on County Road 19, but the suspect continued onto County Road 71, then County Road 38, where he threw objects out of the car window.  Deputies recovered the discarded items, which included methamphetamine, illegal pills, and marijuana. 

Smelley was arrested and charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, and attempting to elude.  He was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center.
