According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, an Ellisville property owner spotted a thief on their property and immediately called 911 on Wednesday. When the suspect saw the owner he fled in a Ford F-250 The victim followed behind the suspect giving updates to 911 dispatchers and Centre Police caught up with the suspect on Highway 411. A brief pursuit ensued until the suspect was forced to stop by truck drivers near the state line.

The suspect, Roy E. Overby, age 74, was taken into custody for several Georgia warrants for theft and burglary. Deputies transported him to the Cherokee County Detention Center where Cpl. Nick Vaughn charged him for third degree burglary and third degree theft of property. Cpl. Vaughn returned the stolen items back to the owner. Overby was also charged with attempting to elude by Centre Police.
