Deputy Arrests Suspect after Pursuit in Spring Garden…

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, a Gadsden man was arrested around 2 AM on Friday morning in the Spring Garden area after attempting to flee Cave Spring Police and Cherokee County Deputy Dalton Cosby.  Deputy Cosby became involved in the pursuit when they entered into Alabama on U.S. Highway 411 and continued down County Road 33 and U.S. Highway 278 before ending on County Road 643.  The driver, Joie L. Gowens, 57 of Gadsden, was driving a stolen 1998 Ford Ranger from Tallapoosa, Georgia.  Deputy Cosby charged Gowens with first degree receiving stolen property, attempting to elude, resisting arrest, violation of the prohibition law, and several traffic-related offenses.  The suspect was also arrested on existing warrants for probation violation and FTA on theft of property.  He was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center.
