According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, a resident in the John’s Crossroads area called 911 when someone attempted to enter their residence early Monday during the overnight hours.  The suspect was startled by the homeowner and fled into another building.  Deputy Parris and Investigator Monroy arrived on the scene and the suspect was quickly apprehended.  Deputy Parris transported 45 year-old, Derrick Lee Smith, of Centre, to the Cherokee County Detention Center on charges of third degree burglary.
