Sheriff's Office Conducts Women's Self Defense Training

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office recently conducted a women’s self-defense class for a group of Cherokee County Board of Education employees.  The Women’s Equalizer Self-Defense training was held at the Centre Middle School and was instructed by Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Sheldon Estes.  According to Sheriff Jeff Shaver, 16 motivated ladies participated in the class that met one evening a week for a month. The training is hands-on that focuses on strikes, headlock escapes, and other self-defense techniques.  It also emphasizes situational awareness and residential security.  Sheriff Shaver stated, “Sgt. Estes is an excellent self-defense instructor, who coordinated the training and made the class a success.”
