Man Wanted on Drug Charges Arrested After Chase

   According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, Jamey Lamar Helms, 37, of Cedar Bluff was arrested around 9:00 p.m. on the night of March 11 after leading deputies on a chase.  Deputies spotted Helms and knew there were existing felony warrants for his arrest from DeKalb County.   The suspect attempted to flee and ran his vehicle into a ditch at the intersection of Alabama Highway 273 and County Road 75.  Helms attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended by deputies.  Helm’s was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance,  possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, and attempting to elude   Deputies transported Helms to the Cherokee County Detention Center where he is being held on a $16,500.00 bond .  Upon his release, Helms will be extradited to DeKalb County to face charges of manufacturing and possession of drug paraphernalia.
