Gadsden Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Cedar Bluff Bank Robbery

BIRMINGHAM ? A federal judge today sentenced a Gadsden man to 30 years in prison for orchestrating the armed bank robbery of a Cherokee County bank in December, announced U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance and FBI Special Agent in Charge Patrick Maley.

 U.S. District Judge Inge P. Johnson sentenced BRIAN JEROME LINDSEY, 36, of Gadsden, and ordered him to serve five years of supervised release after completing his prison term.

A jury convicted Lindsey in March on charges of armed bank robbery and using a firearm during a crime of violence. The jury found that Lindsey was the mastermind who planned the robbery of Union State Bank in Cedar Bluff. Four other men entered the bank and, using firearms, robbed it of more than $160,000. Most of the money was recovered.

The four other robbers, Remarez Antwan Baker, 28, of Anniston, James Lavan Shropshire Jr., 25, and Cory Morgan, 28, both of Gadsden, and James Jahad Ravenel, 30, of New York, all pleaded guilty in February to armed bank robbery and using a firearm during a crime of violence. ?

Brian Lindsey directed a group of men who endangered many lives the day they entered the Cedar Bluff bank with guns, robbed it, and fled down the highway,? Vance said. ?Thanks to the tremendous and immediate response to the robbery from myriad federal, state and local police agencies, all of these bank robbers were brought to justice and will serve years in prison.? The FBI led the investigation of this case.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joseph P. Montminy and Henry Cornelius prosecuted the case.
