Sheriff Welcomes 2 New Deputy Positions...

Sheriff Jeff Shaver welcomes two new deputies to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.  According to Sheriff Shaver, the need for additional deputies has increased with the increase of traffic and people living and visiting Cherokee County.  The County Commission also recognized that need and agreed to fund the two additional deputies.  Sheriff Shaver said, "Cherokee County is a great place to live, work, and play and we plan to keep it that way."

The two new deputies are Jakob Simmons and Michael Pruett.  Both currently serve as corrections officers in the Cherokee County Detention Center and both have served in the United States Army.  According to Chief Deputy Josh Summerford, the two new deputies will attend the next session of the Sheriff's Academy which is held in Jefferson County beginning in August.

Sheriff Shaver further stated, "Public safety is our priority and I appreciate Judge Burgess and all of the Commissioners for their support.  We could not operate without the strong support of Judge Burgess and Commissioners Teague, Nichols, Shaw and Jones."
