Cherokee County Hosts Sheriff's Educational Conference...

10/06/2021

Sheriff Jeff Shaver, Chief Deputy Josh Summerford and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office hosted a sheriffs education conference this past weekend at the Chesnut Bay Resort in Leesburg. Sheriff Shaver welcomed Sheriffs and members of their staff from 27 counties across Alabama. Several topics, including jail operations, grant funding, investigations, and legal updates, were discussed among the group. The information was very informative and the event allowed Alabama Sheriffs to renew and strengthen their partnerships. These partnerships allow all Sheriffs to work together to solving crime and address issues in their home counties. Sheriffs were addressed by Probate Judge Tim Burgess, Deputy District Attorney Summer McWhorter Summerford, Representative Ginny Shaver, Calhoun County District Attorney Brian McVeigh, ASA President Sheriff Derrick Cunningham, and members of Jacksonville State University's Center for Applied Forensics.

Sheriff Shaver said, "we were honored to host this many Sheriffs and show off the beauty of Cherokee County."

Sheriff Shaver serves on the Alabama Sheriff's Association's executive committee and is the district four director.
