Message from Sheriff Jeff Shaver...

The person that wore the Minneapolis Police uniform and committed the horrid murder of George Floyd, was not a true law enforcement officer, but an imposter and a coward.  This person, along with the other former officers who were present, but passive and failed to intervene, should be prosecuted and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

In my experience, the overwhelming majority of law enforcement officers are good men and women who work hard for their communities each day. True law enforcement officers are those who honorably, humbly, and bravely serve others, defend those who cannot defend themselves, and faithfully protect the rights of all people, regardless of race, gender, religion, origin, or any other factor.

America is a diverse Nation made up of many races and ethnicities, we should remember that we are all Americans, no matter our race or background. One of the most sacred rights we have as Americans is the freedom to say what we feel and to demonstrate those sentiments through peaceful assembly in the public square.  However, one's freedom for something, should not take another's freedom from something.  The individuals who rightfully choose to exercise their voices and using their presence in peaceful protests, should not be robbed of the good they could do, by others disguised as wolves in sheep clothing that prey upon the opportunity to commit crimes through riots, looting, and assault.

In the Bible, Galatians 5:13-15 says, "For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don't use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

Let us use this as a reminder to be determined to rise to the highest calling for any person, to love each other in both word and deed.

Your Sheriff,
