According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, deputies arrested 54 year-old Danny Joe Elders of Cedar Bluff on multiple charges on Sunday, July 24, 2016.  Corporal Nick Vaughn responded to a call at Elder’s residence that he was damaging another person’s vehicle.  When Elders saw the deputy arriving, he ran and grabbed what appeared to be a rifle.  Vaughn ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, but he refused and ran inside the house.  Elders ran out the side door of the residence where Vaughn was awaiting for back-up.  Elders was quickly taken into custody.  Elders was charged with menacing, attempting to elude, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and promoting prison contraband.  Sheriff Shaver stated he appreciates other deputies, investigators, Centre police officers, and Cedar Bluff police officers for responding to assist.
