According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, Rescue Squad, EMS units, and deputies responded to a swimming accident in the Tucker’s Chapel area on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 27th. Witnesses told deputies and investigators the young man jumped into the water and appeared to be struggling. He went under and never resurfaced. Two bystanders jumped into the water, located the victim, and pulled him to the rocks. Attempts to revive him on the scene and during transport to Cherokee Medical Center were unsuccessful. Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton pronounced the victim at the Cherokee Medical Center.
