 Danny Joe Segers

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, on Wednesday, March 25, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Deputy Tyler Perea spotted a wanted individual on Alabama Highway 35 north of Gaylesville. Perea attempted to stop the subject, who initially pulled to the side of the road then sped away, attempting to flee. The subject, identified as Danny Joe Segers, 37, of Cedar Bluff led deputies in a pursuit for several miles with speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. Segers braked sharply several times attempting to wreck his pursuers. Segers stopped abruptly, causing the deputy to strike the rear of his vehicle, which left the road and overturned in a deep ditch. Segers was taken into custody and received medical treatment on the scene before being airlifted to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Segers was discharged from the hospital and transported to the Hamilton County Detention Facility, where he awaits extradition back to Cherokee County, Alabama.
