On Friday, May 7, 2013, at approximately 3:35 pm, agents with the Cherokee County Narcotics Unit and Cherokee County deputies arrested 48 year old David Eugene Clark of Piedmont for drug trafficking.

According to Sheriff Jeff Shaver, agents received information that Clark was en-route to Cherokee County from the Atlanta area with a large quantity of methamphetamine.  Agents began surveillance on Clark’s possible routes of travel and alerted deputies to be on the lookout for his vehicle.  While traveling south on County Road 19 near the Calhoun County line, Deputies Tony Monroy and Tyler Perea alertly observed a truck on the side of the roadway approximately one half mile inside Cherokee County which matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle.  After identifying the driver as David Eugene Clark, Deputy Monroy conducted a pat down search of Clark’s person, recovering a small clear plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine.  A subsequent search of Clark’s vehicle produced a plastic bag containing multiple ounces of methamphetamine, several meth pipes, a large quantity of cash, and a semi-automatic handgun. 

David Eugene Clark was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Facility where he was arrested on charges of drug trafficking (methamphetamine), unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, and resisting arrest.  Clark is currently out on bond awaiting trial in Etowah County on similar charges.
