Georgia Man Arrested Following Chase

A Georgia man faces several charges after speeding recklessly and attempting to allude local authorities Thursday evening.  According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, Rodney Gene Rickman, 43, of Rome, Georgia, was observed driving at an extremely high rate of speed on Alabama Highway 9, north of Cedar Bluff.  Rickman fled north on Alabama Highway 35 through Gaylesville and continued for several miles before abandoning his vehicle and fleeing on foot.  Deputies gave chase and captured Rickman.  He is charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence, attempting to elude, and resisting arrest.  Deputies Nick Vaughn and Michael Green transported Rickman to the Cherokee County Detention Facility.
