Escapee From Georgia Captured at Cherokee Rock Village

According to Sheriff Jeff Shaver, on Wednesday, July 13th at approximately 9:00p.m. agents of the Cherokee County Sheriff?s Office Narcotics Unit arrested an escapee from a Georgia work release center at Cherokee Rock Village near Leesburg. Agents arrested James Everett Peek after observing a suspicious vehicle and stopping to question the occupants. Peek gave Officers a false name to try to avoid the fact that he was wanted for the escape and that he was also wanted for other numerous charges in other Georgia locations. Agents also took into custody Walter F. Gann age 43 of Centre on charges of Possession of a Controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Peek escaped from Haralson County on June 26th when he fled from a work release detail. Peek is now facing new charges in Georgia along with several new charges in Alabama. Agents recovered a methamphetamine lab from his possession at the time of his arrest.
