05/03/2010

April 30, 2010 - After receiving information that Joshua Eugene Underwood of Gadsden was transporting a large amount of crack cocaine to Cherokee County, Cherokee County Narcotics Agents, Sheriff Jeff Shaver, and county investigators attempted to stop Underwood on County Road 20 in the Slackland community. Underwood attempted to elude the officers and threw the cocaine out the window of his car, which was recovered. Underwood was charged with tampering with physical evidence, attempting to elude, attempting to commit a controlled substance violation, and two counts of distribution of a controlled substance. This is one of the largest crack cocaine seizures made in recent years. This arrest was made as part of the Cherokee County Counter-Drug Enhancement Program, which is funded through a $300,000 Justice Department grant by the Recovery Act of 2009.
